Driveway Installation
A driveway carries vehicles, takes turning movements and has to move water away from the house. The order of work is set out, excavate, sub-base, compact, drain, then surface.
Setting out the driveway
The shape of the driveway is marked on the ground and the finished level is agreed against the property, any thresholds and the surrounding ground. This is done before anything is dug, because the level of the finished surface decides how deep the excavation needs to go.
Building the base
The existing surface and any unsuitable ground are removed, and a graded sub-base is brought in and spread in layers. Each layer is compacted before the next is placed. Falls are formed during this stage so that water has somewhere to go once the surface is on.
Laying and finishing the surface
The paving is laid on the compacted base, working to the agreed levels. Edges are restrained so the surface cannot spread, joints are filled, and the finished level is checked along the length of the driveway before the site is cleared.
